Zain Great Idea
Regional expansion marked a new chapter in Zain’s innovation journey
Background
Zain Great Idea (ZGI) is the Group’s flagship tech startup accelerator, created to turn promising early-stage ventures into investable, scalable businesses. Launched in 2010 as a Kuwait-based initiative, and following the launch of the ‘4WARD-Progress with Purpose’ corporate strategy, ZGI evolved into a Group-wide platform that connects founders with structured mentorship, routes to capital, and real market pathways across Zain’s enterprise and consumer ecosystems. Over its 16+ year journey, the program has upskilled more than 7,000 entrepreneurs through 110+ bootcamps, reinforcing ZGI as a long-term engine for capability building and value creation.
In 2025, ZGI marked a defining milestone by expanding beyond its Kuwait-centric roots to welcome applications from innovators across six Zain markets: Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
This regional expansion was powered by Zain Ventures, the Group’s venture capital arm, and ZainTECH, its regional digital solutions enterprise arm, strengthening Zain’s pipeline for collaboration with high-potential startups at scale. Zain Ventures played a central role in identifying opportunities for investment and enabling founders to pitch directly for potential funding, while ZainTECH supported program execution by providing strategic advisory and technical enablement aligned with emerging technologies, including cloud, AI, analytics, robotics, and more.
Bootcamp phase
The bootcamp phase served as ZGI’s foundation-building engine, bringing together founders and subject-matter experts through intensive, skills-focused sessions. Across Zain markets, the bootcamp journey gave entrepreneurs a chance to meet program partners and gain clarity on the roadmap, objectives, and expectations. Over the following weeks, founders participated in one-to-one and speed mentoring sessions designed to accelerate practical readiness across core areas such as product development, go-to-market strategy, finance, and operations.
The bootcamps drew on a diverse bench of international and regional experts who contributed deep perspectives on venture building and investment readiness.
Beyond expert-led content, the bootcamp phase was deliberately designed to connect founders with the broader ecosystem that can support their growth. Zain specialists from business solutions, sales, technical solutions, and business development contributed practical market insights, while alumni from previous ZGI editions shared live lessons and founder-to-founder guidance. This approach gave startups both capability uplift and early access to the relationships that matter for scaling, including exposure to Zain Ventures and ZainTECH leadership as part of the cohort’s development experience.
Super Saturday phase
Held in October, Super Saturday is ZGI’s high-stakes selection milestone, where participating startups pitched to a panel of judges for the opportunity to advance into the international acceleration track. The format was built to test clarity of problem-solution fit, traction signals, and founder readiness under pressure, while also serving as an early filter for startups with investment potential. Outcomes of this phase shaped the shortlist that moved forward toward the Silicon Valley international accelerator phase, ensuring the most prepared ventures progressed into the program’s most intensive growth environment.

Silicon Valley trip
The Silicon Valley Global Acceleration phase represented the program’s most immersive stage, with the two-week experience having brought together founders from the six Zain markets. The cohort consisted of 11 regional startups, and the program combined intensive learning, networking, and pitching exposure to a broad set of global experts. Designed to elevate business fundamentals and investment readiness, the experience included structured masterclasses and bootcamps, ecosystem engagement, and a Demo Day that helped founders refine their narratives and build momentum for partnerships and fundraising conversations.
The Silicon Valley itinerary blended curriculum with real-world exposure to global innovation leaders. Delivered in collaboration with Vibranium VC, an early-stage venture fund based in Silicon Valley, the program featured hands-on workshops spanning venture mindset, business model design, go-to-market execution, and product decision-making, alongside practical perspectives on modern product building including no-code and AI approaches. Founders also engaged deeply with fundraising readiness, covering deal fluency, financial modeling, pitch mastery, and long-term pathways such as merger and acquisition outcomes. Field visits to major technology landmarks and innovation institutions, including Apple, Google, Tesla, NVIDIA, Amazon, and Stanford University, translated theory into live insight and reinforced what it takes to compete globally.

Demo Day
Demo Day marked the culminating milestone of the ZGI journey, translating months of acceleration, mentoring, and international exposure into tangible pathways for growth, partnership, and investment. The event brought together founders from 11 tech startups representing six Zain markets, who pitched their refined business models and growth strategies to a curated audience of investors, business partners, and senior executives from across the Group.
More than a showcase, Demo Day reflected Zain’s evolved approach to open innovation by positioning ZGI as a platform where acceleration leads to outcomes. Through the integrated roles of Zain Ventures and ZainTECH, founders were connected directly to potential investment discussions, commercial pilots, and strategic partnerships, reinforcing Zain’s commitment to turning entrepreneurial momentum into scalable economic value.
The event also underscored the impact of ZGI’s regional expansion, demonstrating how a Group-wide accelerator can serve as a bridge between local innovation and regional and global markets. By convening startups, investors, and decision-makers on a single stage, Demo Day reaffirmed Zain Great Idea’s role as a long-term growth engine that converts ideas into investable ventures and strengthens the region’s innovation ecosystem.
